Ministry

Currently Streetsville United Church is searching for a new Minister. More information can be found at the United Church Hub for ministry searches.

Until a Supply Minister joins us in early January Reverend Kate Young, minister of Munns United Church in Oakville, serves as our Pastoral Charge Supervisor; she can be reached at 416-577-3305 or . Her responsibilities include pastoral activities such as arranging funeral services and member visits, as appropriate.

For services up to January 2 we have lined up several lay personnel or ministers to provide service leadership every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. Services continue to be also streamed out to our YouTube channel. Rev. Young will lead a Christmas Eve communion service at 10:00 p.m. December 24.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Don Gibson as a Supply Minister with a six month term starting January 5.

The subcommittee of Council, made up of Neil Beattie, Ruth Kochanuk, Kate Sparrow and myself, has been successful in finding a wonderful Supply Minister to provide the congregation with some stability and continuity, while the new Search committee looks for a permanent Minister.

Rev. Don Gibson will start with Streetsville on January 5th and his first Sunday in the pulpit will be January 9th. Don was educated in Montreal (Loyola College and McGill) and has served in the United Church for over 40 years. He has served congregations in Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Ontario. He retired from Runnymede United Church in Bloor West Village, in May 2020.  Since that time Don has been providing pulpit supply at several Churches in Toronto and has been supervising the Minister at a Ugandan United Church in Toronto, during his accreditation process.

Church Council met on November 22nd and has unanimously approved the 6-month Supply Ministry Appointment.

Rev. Don is a gifted preacher and a pastor with a commitment to congregational life. He is Biblically focused with a strong belief that the Gospel calls us to new life, and to the work of creating new life which is the foundation of social justice. In preaching and study groups, he encourages people to go deeper in faith so that the presence of God in Jesus will impact their lives. We have already spoken with Don about a number of potential winter and spring studies/seminars.

Please join me in welcoming Rev. Don to the Streetsville Family. We look forward to being able to introduce him in-person in the New Year.
