Reverend John Tapscott B.A., B.Ed.,M.Div.

Reverend John Tapscott B.A., B.Ed.,M.Div.

Reverend John was born and raised on a dairy farm in Southern Ontario. He graduated with a B.A. degree from Queen’s University in 1978, and worked in the insurance industry for six years before he heard and answered God’s call to ministry. A graduate from Emmanuel College with his M. Div. in 1987, he was ordained that same year. His ministry began in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia where he served for three years (and met and married his wife, Adelaide). He subsequently moved to Halifax where he served Edgewood United Church for 10 years.

He was called to Streetsville in 2000. His 25th year as a United Church of Canada minister was marked by a special celebration during a church service in October 2012. John has been a life-long member of the United Church; he was baptized, raised and confirmed in the church, and was involved in many aspects of church life before his ordination.

While in Cape Breton, John married Adelaide; they have one daughter, Julie, who is currently a dental receptionist in Toronto. He is proud to say that both are active Christians and involved in church life. His interests  include  reading (more than just theology!), music (especially collecting  and listening to jazz recordings), sports (mostly of the arm-chair variety these days), and spending his summer vacations in Cape Breton where Adelaide’s family home is located.

John’s message to those exploring a new faith journey:

Welcome to our Streetsville United Church website. My name is John Tapscott and I am the minister/pastor of Streetsville United Church. But I don’t do this work all alone! I’m assisted in ministry here by all the members of the congregation. We also believe that God has a guiding hand in all we are doing around here!

It is my joy as a pastor to invite people into a growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We incorporate both traditional and contemporary elements in our worship and congregational life. Streetsville United offers Christian growth and nurture for all ages through various programs and service opportunities. We have a very active Sunday School program for students from age three through the end of high school. There is also a nursery and toddler room for the wee ones.

Whether you are beginning your faith journey, or whether you are new to the community and seeking the fellowship of a worshiping Christian community, we invite you to look at what Streetsville United has to offer. I hope that our website will be helpful to you, but please be sure to email or call if there is any further information that you would find helpful.

RE: Propsed Concert at Streetsville United by Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir

    Dear Rev. Tapscott,

My name is Bruce Mullock. I sing baritone with the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir.
I double as one of TWMVC’s concert engagement team.

Your church might host a combination social and fundraising concert event , with TWMVC serving as the draw. A registered charitable organization, TWMVC would be delighted to perform for your church community.

The Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir ’s thrilling concerts enable host organizations to raise money for their outreaches and projects, through ticket sales. They serve at the same time as a social event for the congregation and community. People like attending live events, especially when the cause feels worthy. Your concert might draw persons into your church for the first time. Our concerts are known to leave a lasting impression. Thirty-five, tightly- knit male singers in tuxedo singing under superb direction, fill your sanctuary with “goosebump” harmonies. This is fun.

Our past sponsors include countless churches of varied denominations. These sponsors had become exhausted by bake and rummage sales, and remained uninspired by grandchildren photo contests. All shared a desire to fund raise, but in a pleasant way. You could think of TWMVC as one charitable organization, enabling other charitable organizations to raise money for their projects.

We love doing this. Audiences tell us that it shows. During our regular 2018 /2019 season, we sent 12 Ontario audiences home, beaming . In 2018 we ventured to Newfoundland in July, where we performed a four-concert tour.

Completing our 23rd season, the Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir is a powerful, auditioned male choir, singing in the TTBB tradition of the Welsh male voice choruses. We sing the achingly beautiful Welsh repertoire completely off-book and in Welsh…no small task.

    Expect energetic audience response.

TWMVC understands how to connect with your audience. Known for our passion and nuance, both of phrasing and dynamic, the Choir goes on to perform varied music selections from the realms of opera, Canadian folk , spiritual, pop and Broadway.

It is a great mix. All this comes highlighted by a pervasive sense of fun, arising from a cheeky choir stage presence and a quick-witted master of ceremonies.

We have entertained audiences, not only across Ontario, but also across Canada. TWMVC has performed as well in the UK and the USA, even to the stage of Carnegie Hall. William Woloschuk is our brilliant Artistic Director. Bryn Terfel is our Honorary Patron.

I hope the prospect of a Toronto Welsh Male Voice Choir concert may hold interest for you. Please advise me, if you wish detail on fees or logistics.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Cofion cynnes, kind regards,

    Bruce Mullock
    Concert Secretary
